Coming Up in 2012

APRIL - Typography200

GVAL is currently planning a juried exhibition at the Carnegie Gallery in Columbus Metropolitan Library in April 2012. The title is Typography200. GVAL chose a theme incorporating symbols and language with the 200th anniversary of Columbus in mind. Art for this show should use language and symbols to communicate your message, and does not have to be graphic design work which is exclusively about text. A call for entries with more details will be provided at the end of this month.

MAY - (Not Always) Black and White

In May 2012 GVAL will highlight all (5) of its Featured artists since it began in 2011.  This exhibition will be held at MadLab Gallery.  The title refers to the b/w or limited color palette all five frequently work in, but are going to add another dimension of meaning to the title by each including a work or works in the show that deal with issues of ambiguity. It may be ambiguity in the perception of the art's subject matter and meaning, or work that deals with social issues that don't always have clear boundaries between right and wrong. It could even deal with our whole definition of art. (What it is, what it isn't.)

Show runs May 1-27, Opening Reception on May 5 from 5-7pm. Mad Lab will be hosting and providing refreshments.

The next GVAL Newsletter will be posted March 2012.
